Quoting a professional - Canada is a safe place. Safe - does not mean secure.
Do not let your guard down!!!
There are many people that would be happy to help themselves out on your expense.
This can range from sales people selling you stuff you don't need or don't fully understand. To criminals pretending to your bank and asking for your SIN number on the phone. In Canada, just as everywhere else - there are no free meals. Someone has to pay the bill.
So, don't be afraid to ask questions about anything as part of any transaction you make. If someone is holding back and does not want to give you more information - this is a clear red flag of you being used one way or the other,
As said in the Communication page - information is the main currency of Canadian social economy.
